Wem Town Hall

The 19th of November 1995 saw a terrible fire which completely gutted Wem town hall in Northern Shropshire.

At the height of the blaze a local (Tony O'Rahilly) took this photograph using a 200mm lens from the road, and upon development discovered that it clearly shows a young girl, standing in the doorway of the town hall's fire escape.

It is believed that the figure is that of Jane Churm, who was alleged to have been linked to the starting of an earlier fire known as the Fire of Wem in 1677 which tore apart the town. She apparently did so unintentionally, by accidentally setting light to a thatched roof with a candle.

No one known why she would be haunting the town hall, but some think it could be down to her guilt for starting the original fire.
